Tukatukas
Hundreds of miles east of Madagascar, surrounded by the waters of the Indian Ocean, Réunion Island harbors many elements of a tropical paradise: volcanoes, lagoons, Creole huts, and traditional rhythmic Séga music, which invites listeners to dance and rejoice. But dig a little deeper into the underground of this French territory… And tucked out of sight from the tourist havens you find the flourishing local punk scene that has sprouted Tukatukas.
There is nothing tropical about the music of Tukatukas -- blasting away 240 beats per minute, the band has become heralded for its energetic concerts and breathtaking speed, with tunes that rarely exceed three minutes in length, hearkening back to the tempo of classic early '80s hardcore with the attitude and old-school edge of late '70s punk. Lyrically, the band deals with everyday life, focusing on the hot-button topics that most affect them -- addiction, pedophilia, sexism -- while eschewing partisan politics and demagoguery.
The new album is GC Records’ first double LP venture, and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser for punks anywhere on the globe! The album is a co-production with Maudit Tangue, KeepHope Productions, and Sick & Twisted.
